Destiny Kinal

Destiny Kinal is a writer, journalist, marketing consultant, activist and cultural entrepreneur. And, yes, that is her real name, awarded to her at birth by far-seeing parents.

As well as building DKMC, her troubleshooting marketing consultancy to the Fortune 500, Kinal has walked the creative journey: she has an MFA from Bennington College, and directs the Waverley School for the Living Arts, which she founded in 1999 to foster collaboration through the book arts. She has worked as a teacher and visiting artist in schools and universities. Her numerous publications as a writer and journalist include books, essays, poems, articles, reviews, and interviews. For Kinal, art and activism walk hand in hand. She has fought for environmental and social justice for the past forty years, as teacher, grant writer, philanthropist and director of high-risk ventures such as the MidAtlantic Grassroots Environment Fund and well-established organizations such as the Carantouan Greenway.

From slam poet to Woman of the Year, from Digger to company president, Destiny Kinal is, quite frankly, someone who makes things happen. Burning Silk, her first novel, draws together the connected strands of a remarkable life.
